mud mountain dam
Built in the 1940s by the US Army Corps of Engineers, Mud Mountain Dam rests on the White River. A rock and earth filled dam, it was designed to control floods in the White and Puyallup river valleys and continues to serve that purpose today. It also serves as a popular destination for families looking to escape the everyday routine.
The day-use area offers open grass, multiple playgrounds, covered picnic and barbecue areas and a wading pool with fountain. In addition to the view of the dam, the trails offer a spectacular view of the river valley – hike, bike or ride horses.
The park is open all year but the hours change with the seasons.
Summer hours are typically 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
In September, closing time changes to 4 p.m.
During the winter, October through April, the park closes at 4 p.m. and is closed on the weekends.
